Description

What happens when you take a polished Chevrolet body, bolt it to a custom chassis, drop in 427 cubic inches of hot Dart small block and pile on a list of mind-blowing parts? You get one incredible classic that instantly becomes the center of attention wherever it goes! Featuring timeless aesthetics, a retro chic interior and a level of detail that requires multiple looks to fully comprehend, this sweet Camaro is a carefully calculated compilation of top-notch performance from some of the biggest names in the business. And what's better: it's a fully sorted cruiser that was built, above all else, to be driven and enjoyed. Want an impressive ride that you can hop in, turn the key and sail some blacktop with? Your chariot has arrived!

PIECE BY PIECE

Built by a passionate enthusiast who enlisted the well-known wizards at Roadster Shop for world class finishing work, this sweet Camaro was transformed from a solid driver into what could be the ultimate resto-mod. Visually, that exclusive status is achieved through solid sheetmetal, which was stripped bare and painted in pieces. That pigment manifests as a slick take on traditional Garnet Red two-stage that's garnished with traditional Tuxedo Black Rally Stripes. And today, this legendary Chevy rolls as one razor-sharp F1 that's poised to show and raring to go!

Many enthusiasts believe the 1969 Camaro is both the pinnacle of muscle car design and the zenith of classic Chevy design. This perennial token of mechanical expressionism kicks off with a familiar Super Sport grille, which centers bright halogen headlights and a clean “SS” emblem above clear parking lamps, a polished bumper and a requisite D80 spoiler. An ornate Camaro header leads a slight Cowl Induction Hood, which leads chip-free glass that's sandwiched between bright wipers, bright frames and bright drip rails. At the sides of the car, a sculpted profile centers intricate fender emblems and optional quarter louvers between factory door handles, standard rocker trim and a duo of factory mirrors. And at the back of that profile, a second D80 spoiler shades a second “SS” emblem, a second polished bumper and segmented taillights.

THE 'NOT A BIG BLOCK' BIG BLOCK

Pop this classic's polished hood latch and you'll find 427 cubic inches of rowdy Chevy small block that twists a solid 553 horsepower into 576 lb./ft. of effortless torque! All that glory begins with a tough Dart Special High Performance block, which works well with a forged crank, forged H-beam rods, forged pistons and a hydraulic roller cam. A reusable filter element drops breeze through an 830cfm Holley, which surfs a block-matched Dart Special High Performance intake. That intake feeds hot Dart PRO1 heads, which flash aluminum casting between stainless breathers, smooth roller rockers and custom, laser-etched valve covers. The fires get lit by MSD 6AL ignition, which sequences spark between an MSD Blaster coil, an MSD Pro-Billet distributor and loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Custom Lemons headers, Jet Hot-coated for both form and function, cage a deep-sump oil pan. At the front of those tubes, a polished Billet Specialties Tru Trac serpentine drive spins an Edelbrock water pump between a polished AC compressor, a polished power steering pump and a polished Powermaster alternator. In front of those ancillaries, a big Ron Davis radiator tilts a polished cap over big SPAL puller fans. And on the visual end of the spectrum, billet hood supports and trick Fesler brace bars perfectly complement polished hardware, trick dipsticks and a subdued Wilwood master cylinder.

RUN WITH THE BEST

Park this Chevy on a lift and you'll find solid floorpans that, during the car's extensive restoration, were stripped, prepped, coated in epoxy and finished in clean Satin Black sheen. Behind the 427, a tough Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed combines an extreme duty sprag and an extreme duty drum with a race kit, a valve body kit and a street stall to spin up to 600 horsepower. That gearbox turns a custom Moser driveshaft that's good for up to 600 lb./ft. of torque. That tube twists a powder-coated Moser MUSCLE PAK rear end that's finished with 3.73 gears, a Truetrac differential, 31-spline axles and a 1350 yoke. That pumpkin rides Detroit Speed leafs, which float between CalTracs traction bars and double-adjustable QA-1 shocks. That clip pushes powder-coated GM control arms, which float amid Belltech springs, Belltech drop spindles and two more double-adjustable QA-1 shocks. All that kit is stiffened by a tubular Chassisworks transmission mount and welded Hotchkis subframe connectors. Fuel is supplied by a billet Holley HP pump, which drains a polished Detroit Speed tank. Charred dinosaurs traverse stainless, Mandrel-bent pipes, which roar through an X-shaped crossover and throaty MagnaFlow mufflers. At the corners, stainless brake lines charge Wilwood Superlite 6R calipers, which squeeze 20 pistons around two 13-inch rotors and two 12-inch rotors. In front of those drilled and slotted discs, Forgeline Premier Series SP3Ps spin 225/40R18 Nitto Invos in front of 275/30ZR19 Nitto Invos. And choice detailing includes Moog bushings, billet clamps, polyurethane mounts and stainless hardware.

SETTING THE STANDARD

The Standard Black Interior hiding behind this Camaro's glossy doors is a correct factory affair that, 53 years after its debut, is still both stylish and cool. Tall bucket seats, sourced from YEARONE, frame a factory console that's finished with 4-pack accessory gauges. In front of that island, a monochromatic dash hangs rebuilt factory telemetry over an AM/FM stereo and Vintage Air Gen IV climate control. That seat, dash and console trifecta is completely framed by a tight headliner, fade-free side panels and clean carpet. And the driver spins a reproduction Chevrolet Rally Wheel beside a familiar Horseshoe Shifter that's wired with line lock.

The product of a detailed, ground-up build that would probably take a second mortgage to duplicate, this Chevy rolls on the right side of impressive. It's a highly desirable muscle car that's been carefully fitted with all the right stuff to be one seriously cool cruiser. If you're dreaming of the perfect blend of old school Motor City style and modern, reliable performance, you've found the ultimate classic!
