LS3 Corvette Resto-Mod with 525 hp V8 Automatic Air Cond. RideTech Suspension
Over the past 110 years, Chevrolet has built such a vast empire of lovable offerings that some of them just seem to get overlooked. And we're not talking about mere models and packages, literally entire eras of great Chevy cars have been somewhat underappreciated by restorers and enthusiasts. Probably the most substantial victims of this phenomenon are early '80s gems like the third-gen Camaro, the fourth-gen Monte Carlo and, perhaps most sadly, the third-gen Corvette. Perfected through 14 years of continuous improvement, the vaunted C3 is one of the best looking cars to ever don Corvette cross-flags. The model introduced many enduring innovations, like T-tops, Throttle Body Fuel Injection and the vaunted ZR-1 package. And its American Muscle mechanicals are common enough to comprise a large slice of the bowtie division's prolific aftermarket support system.
So, why do most enthusiasts opt for either much older or much newer Corvettes? One word: power. Final-year C3s topped out at a whopping 200 horsepower -- a number that, by default, depresses other numbers, like price. But that, our friends, is precisely what makes these Vettes so desirable! Wrapping 'less preferable' originality in some of Chevrolet's best styling, these cars are ready-made resto-mod road warriors. And, backing a 525 horsepower Chevrolet Performance LS3 with a modern transmission, customized Ultraleather and a roster of RideTech suspension upgrades, this svelte coupe is a tailored classic that's unique, highly appealing and effortlessly gratifying!
SAGE RAGE
Hailing from the small Texas town of Royse City, this awesome Chevy is the beneficiary of detailed, professional restoration that was conducted by a shop called RPL Customs. That reboot planted solid fiberglass under custom Cadillac Sage Metallic two-stage, sprayed by the pros at Royse City's own Vastine's Paint Garage. That pigment shines bright under polished handles, an electric antenna and requisite mirrored T-Tops. Fresh header and fuel door emblems look great above Satin Black grilles, Satin Black heat extractors and Satin Black rocker trim. And form meets function at clear markers, body-matched mirrors and electric Detroit Speed headlights.
262% MORE HORSEPOWER!
Tilt this Vette's long hood and you'll find 6.2 liters of divine GM small block that's officially known as the LS376/525. Purchased directly from Chevrolet Performance as one of their awesome Connect And Cruise systems, that trusty mill twists respectable 10.7 to 1 compression into 525 horsepower and 486 lb./ft. of torque. At the top of the block, a conical filter slinks breeze into a painted tube, which fronts a proven GM throttle body. Subtle Holley fuel rails trace a lightweight GM intake. Air meets spark in rectangular-port L92-style heads, which ride under tasteful, cross-flag-branded coil covers. A nodular crank, powdered connecting rods and hypereutectic pistons compress that volatile union. A hydraulic ASA cam utilizes high-rate valve springs to maximize intake efficiency. Speaking of breathing, that smooth valvetrain funnels spent gases through factory LS exhaust manifolds. There's a massive aluminum radiator that's slid in front of dual SPAL puller fans. Billet serpentine components spin an aluminum water pump between a modern alternator and a modern AC compressor. And, as you likely deduced from our high-resolution photos, the Cast Aluminum mill rolls in a clean, Satin Black frame that's finished with niceties like a billet expansion tank, proven GM plug wires and a choice Baer master cylinder.
BETTER BECOMES BEST
Bottom-side, a sturdy factory chassis proves the perfect foundation for the car's inspired resurrection. That Satin Black skeleton rides a heavily upgraded suspension, which tilts a quartet of RideTech coil-overs between a RideTech TruTurn front-clip and sturdy RideTech MUSCLEbars. Behind the LS3, a Chevrolet Performance Connect And Cruise 4L70E 4-speed spins power to fun, 3.55 gears. Lucid power steering works well with 6-piston Baer calipers, which clamp a quartet of drilled and slotted rotors. Spent gases traverse true-dual pipes to vibrate mean Borla ProXS mufflers. And torque meets the pavement through Billet Specialties G-Specs, which spin 255/40ZR18 Michelin Pilot Super Sports in front of 285/35ZR19 Michelin Pilot Super Sports.
ULTRA (CUSTOM) LEATHER
Inside this Chevy you'll find a carefully customized cockpit that wraps modern Ultraleather comfort around timeless Corvette style. Tall bucket seats flash body-matched upholstery at the sides of a simple factory console that's finished with a polished shifter and cool Vintage Air conditioning. In front of those thrones, a color-keyed dash trims crisp Dakota Digital VHX telemetry next to modern Alpine audio. Plush carpet frames custom side panels, which swivel billet handles in front of convenient power door locks and smooth power windows. The aforementioned T-Tops feature custom-built sun shades. And the driver laps a stylish billet steering wheel around a tasteful tilt column.
You really can't ask for a cooler classic than this striking Corvette, especially when it comes to exclusivity and appeal. Mixing definitive Chevrolet swagger with peerless aftermarket prowess, it's the perfect car for any enthusiast who wants a top notch cruiser that's sorted, polished and ready to rock and roll.
