289 V8 Powered Roadster Streetrod Automatic Transmission Disc brakes
Do a quick Google image search for “hot rod” or “street rod” and you'll see two predominant patterns: a whole lot of flames and a whole lot of Model A Fords. While it's hard not to love a good set of flames, or a nice Model A, some enthusiasts simply don't want to make the compromises that Roaring '20s cars often require. Heck, even if you do love traditional hot rods, it's just nice to see something a bit different every now and then. That's why this 1934 Ford is such a refreshing change of pace. From its leather-lined cockpit and hot 289 to its quality Gibbons body, this roadster is one of the coolest classics on the block. Ready for a different kind of street rod at a fraction of the build cost, take a minute to learn about this sweet drop-top!
CLASSIC FORD FLASH
The product of a ground-up, no-expense-spared build that's founded on high quality Gibbons fiberglass, this fabulous Ford is a supremely handsome street rod that's slick enough to create a one-car parade wherever it goes. The car's solid, well-aligned profile reflects deep black base that's sealed in mirror-like clear. And today, a close look at our high-resolution photos reveals a handsome payoff in the form of one slick Dearborn custom! Those aesthetics begin with a handsome, “V8” branded grille, which leads a steel hood that's centered behind a quick Greyhound and polished Ford Twolite headlights. At the sides of that grille, sinuous fenders center matted running boards between traditional Suicide Doors and polished side-exit exhaust. Above those doors, a short windshield stacks polished frames under dainty mirrors and a snug Gibbons top. And at the back of the car, a shaved decklid shades a polished fuel cap and polished LED taillights.
ALL FORD!
Flatheads are fun, but small blocks are better! Best known for it's stellar work in Cobras and Mustangs, Ford's hot 289 looks right at home in this classic's glossy engine bay. At the top of the bright red mill, a Cobra-style air cleaner funnels breeze into a big Holley 4-barrel, which centers a reliable electric choke over sleeved lines and an aluminum Cobra intake. That intake, finished with a MQQN Equipment temp gauge, swirls oxygenated fuel into stock Ford heads, which tilt a billet oil filler over Cobra-style valve covers. A color-keyed distributor fires loomed Accel Hi-Temp Super Stock Spiral Core Wires. Resultant gases are jettisoned through a slick set of coated block hugger headers. Cooling comes courtesy of a big Walker radiator, which hangs a quick spinning puller fan beside a bright expansion tank. And the car's mild cam keeps spinning thanks to billet pulleys and a polished alternator.
THE BEST OF THE PAST, THE BEST OF THE PRESENT
Park this Ford on a lift and you'll find a super clean undercarriage that's nice enough to show and tough enough to go. The choice motor spins a predictable C4 3-speed, which, with the help of a trick Shift Kit, twists torque to an 8-inch Ford axle. That monochromatic pumpkin pushes a boxed frame that's perched on parallel leafs and polished shocks. Opposite that tube, a polished front-half centers a transverse leaf above traditional hairpins, a dropped axle and two more compact shocks. Precise turns are funneled through a Vega-style gearbox. Solid stops are provided by a predictable combination of discs and drums. Polished exhaust pipes spent gases through polished Borla ProXS mufflers. And at the corners, polished Billet Specialties spokes spin 175/65R14 Goodyear Integritys in front of 215/70R15 Goodyear Integritys.
RED AND LEATHER
Peer through the car's chopped windows and you'll find a custom leather interior that's cool, clean and comfortable. A broad bench seat follows a body-matched dash, which centers sharp So-Cal telemetry in a classy, engine-turned instrument panel. Billet foot pedals join a polished brake handle and a long Lokar shifter to shade plush carpet, which rides between custom side panels. And the driver spins a fancy Banjo Steering Wheel around a modern, tilting column.
A lot of cars claim to be the total package, but this fresh Ford actually lives up to the hype. The stout 289 has surprisingly good manners and, paired with the smooth-shifting transmission and thoughtful interior, serves as the basis for one of the coolest cruisers in our showroom. So, buy it for the blue oval, buy it for the build quality… Just make sure to buy it quickly because timeless, road-ready street rods never stick around for too long!
