Description

There are two guaranteed ways to stop traffic with a classic Corvette. You can take the traditional path and buy a highly optioned original car that's fit for a plastic bubble. Or, you can pick up an old road warrior, grab a bunch of vendor catalogs and build the nastiest show car your money can buy! Take this pro street Sting Ray for example. Combining a stretched body with a fun 4-speed and 632 cubic inches of supercharged Dart big block, this 1,200 horsepower coupe was made to prowl the pavement and dominate the concours! And if you've always wanted to build a classic that makes big power, possesses unbeatable aesthetics and oozes timeless Americana, it's your exclusive opportunity to save years of stress and bundles of cash. After all, why postpone joy? Call your friends at RK Motors Charlotte and become the proud new owner of a national award-winning C2!

BODYWORK/TRIM

If your goal is to build a world-class custom, the second-generation Corvette is a great place to start. This classic's professional build, performed by Torrelli Pro Cars Inc. of Lockport, New York, took the aggressive angles of a 1964 coupe and stretched them into an acute jaw-dropper that commands major respect. “Stretched?”, you ask. Yes, during its ground-up restoration, the car was stretched seven inches up front and five inches out back. Naturally, that newly proportioned body was stripped bare and coated in deep PPG black pigment. And that skin, glossy 2-stage that shows well from all angles, is accented by subtle modifications that are both tasteful and timeless.

At the front of the car, a mirrored bumper cages a fresh stainless grille between bullet-style marker lamps. Above that grille, a shaved header leads a custom, electronically actuated hood, which shades a filled, wiperless cowl. At the sides of that hood, a monochromatic profile centers shaved emblems, shaved door handles, shaved lock cylinders and filled fender gills between custom mirrors and custom exhaust shields. At the top of those doors, clean glass, devoid of factory vent windows, seats factory tint and polished frames around filled sail panel vents. And at the back of the car, a shaved decklid splits the difference between polished bumpers, a polished tag bracket, bright taillights and an ornate fuel filler.

ENGINE

Okay, forget about the car's glorious, front-heavy aesthetics for a second and we'll play the numbers game. As it sits, this Corvette's supercharged Dart Big M V8 is good for about one horsepower per cubic inch. That means 600 horsepower of raw motor. The car's first shot of nitrous, sprayed courtesy of Nitrous Express Shark nozzles, adds an even 300 horsepower. And, if you're feeling REALLY frisky, the car's second stage of nitrous doubles that 300. So, when this monster is snorting a perfect mixture of air and laughing gas though its massive 4.600 cylinders, you're galloping down the blacktop with the force of 1,200 horsepower! At the top of the 632 cubic inch mill, polished K&N filters, positioned higher than the car's roofline, funnel fresh wind in to 1,195 cfm King Demon carburetors. Those stainless-trimmed pots ride a Hampton 14-71 blower, which sits pretty on a custom sheetmetal intake that was fabricated by Hogan's Racing Manifolds. That intake feeds polished Dart 410 Big M heads, which hide T&D 3102 rocker assemblies under polished valve covers. At the back of those heads, MSD crank trigger ignition utilizes a custom-grind Bullet Racing cam to sequence spark through thick MSD plug wires. Those wires fire a 4.750 stroke, which comes courtesy of a Lunati Pro Series crank, Eagle connecting rods and 8 to 1 JE blower pistons. Those pistons fill custom Torrelli headers, which jettison spent gases in to throaty side-exit exhaust. And in front of those headers, a custom Ron Davis radiator keeps everything cool with the help of a big puller fan. Naturally, the fully sorted beast looks great set in a spotless engine bay where every surface is completely painted, polished or powder-coated. Niceties such as trick dipsticks, billet pulleys, Moroso breathers and braided Russell hoses ensure this show worthy Chevy has the mechanical ability to back its great looks. And, in case you're wondering, the car's Nitrous Express kit is tunable from 200 to 600 horsepower.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

Look under this C2 and you'll find a powder-coated 4130 chromoly tube chassis that was custom-fabricated by Torrelli Pro Cars Inc. At the center of those bones, a Lenco ST1200 4-speed wraps a Lakewood blowproof bellhousing around a hydraulic throw out bearing and a McLeod Borg and Beck 3-finger dual-disc clutch. That transmission twists a Mark Williams driveshaft, which spins an aluminum Mark Williams third member that hides 3.50 gears and 35-spline axles in a custom Torrelli housing. That ceramic-coated pumpkin pushes a custom 4-link that's finished with Aldan American coil-overs. That ceramic-coated rear-half is led by a Heidts Superide front-clip, which sandwiches Chassisworks rack-and-pinion steering between polished control arms and two more Aldan coil-overs. Stops are provided by 4-piston Wilwood Dynalite calipers, which squeeze a quartet of vented rotors. The soundtrack thunders through polished, 4-inch oval pipes and polished SpinTech mufflers. Rolling stock is equally impressive, as 15x6 and 15x15 Budnik LZ5s spin 26x7.50 Mickey Thompson Sportsmans in front of 33x19.50 Mickey Thompson Sportsman Pros. And everything, from the car's polished oil pan and polished stainless fluid lines to its Optima battery and custom, 22-gallon Mark Williams fuel tank, appears to be restoration-fresh.

INTERIOR

As expected, the plush leather interior hiding behind this Chevy's lightweight fiberglass doors is much more substantial than the 'bare bones' furnishings of average drag strip skippers. A custom, leather-wrapped roll cage frames tall buckets that are dressed in sturdy R.J.S. racing harnesses. In front of those seats, a custom, leather-wrapped dash plants fresh Painless Wiring behind polished accent panels and a full suite of Auto Meter Carbon Fiber Ultra-Lite telemetry. At the base of that dash, four Lenco shifters surf a leather-wrapped tunnel that's bordered by clean carpet and color-keyed floor mats. At the sides of those mats, leather door panels front power windows and power door locks. Polished nitrous tanks reflect a leather headliner. And in front of the driver, a polished Budnik steering wheel laps a polished, tilting column.
