Frame Up Restored Coronet Superbee 383 Magnum Disc + AC

When the Plymouth Road Runner experienced decent results, the executives at Dodge decided that it was time to build a competitor to Plymouth's Muscle Car. Even with the Charger and Coronet R/T, Dodge still built a new creation dubbed the Super Bee. Many looked at the creation as a flat out steal from the Roadrunner. Regardless, the mid-year creation was seen as a success as Dodge created over 48,000 Super Bees in 1968.

This 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee stands today, as a true testament to why these cars were so popular. The Super Bee has been completely restored, features the powerful and original 383ci V8 and a stunning look. But, before we get too far lets decode the VIN and fender tag.

Thanks to a complete restoration, today the Super Bee is covered in a fresh coat of the correct (EB5) Bright Blue Metallic paint. The body looks immaculate and it starts with the, new for 1970, twin looped front bumper that Dodge executives referred to as the 'bumble bee wings'. Within the twin loops sits some Dodge badging, and four headlights. In the center of the front end, the famous Super Bee logo is on the bottom of the hood. Make your way up the hood and you'll find the functional ram air hood scoops and hood pins. The hood scoops look fantastic with chrome tips and chrome 383 badging, and on both fenders you'll find the (L31) fender mounted turn signals. Wrapping the trunk and quarters is the black bumble bee stripes that contain Harvey Winn's famous Super Bee logo. On the rear bumper you'll find more Dodge badging and another Super Bee logo.

Dodge offered three engine options in 1970, the first was a 383ci Magnum rated at 335hp, a 440 Magnum with 390hp and a 426 Hemi capable of 425hp. Pull the hood pins and lift the massive hood, and you'll reveal the original (E63) 383 big block Magnum V8 that is easily capable of laying down plenty of rubber on the streets thanks to 335hp. At the top of the engine an orange air filter gives away what is beneath it with '383 Magnum' badging. The block, valve covers, and air filter cover are all painted in orange and accent the blue engine bay very nicely. In front of the engine is a 26-inch radiator that is responsible for cooling the 383 Magnum. Bolted to the original block is the near bullet proof A-727 3-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission.

Put this true Coronet Super Bee on a lift and you'll see an underside that is covered in flat black. The spent gasses from the 383 Magnum travel out stock-appearing headers to dual exhausts, complete with an X-pipe and Magnaflow mufflers that help create a great sound! The Super Bee came standard with heavy duty suspension that included leaf springs in the rear. It's pretty standard underneath besides where the previous owner upgraded the brakes to Stainless Steel Brake Company's 4-wheel discs. In front of those brakes are the 15x8 Chrome Magnum 500 rims that have been wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A rubber.

Inside the car you'll find a correct (B7) Dark Blue interior that looks as good today as it did when it rolled off the showroom. The blue vinyl front bucket seat looks like it has never been used and is an amazing place to log miles from. Above the seats, a taught blue headliner stretches the length of the roof. In front of the driver is the “three on the tree” controls for the transmission and an instrument cluster that includes a 150mph speedo, analog clock, fuel gauge, water temperature, oil pressure, and voltage meters. Below the gauges the original AM/FM 8 track player is still installed, however the owners opted to install a new AM/FM CD player with remote controls under the dash. Behind the driver and passengers is another bench seat. On the floor is blue carpet and blue floor mats to finish off the look.

The sale of this 1970 Coronet Super Bee includes the original operator's manual, the original feature manual, the original service manual, and installation manuals.

Sadly the Super Bee model would be discontinued only one year later in 1971, until 2007 when Dodge unveiled the 2007 Charger Super Bee. Thanks to a complete restoration, this 1970 Super Bee is absolutely stunning. As we stated, originally Dodge built the Super Bee to be an affordable muscle car option for the public. It was capable of running 14 second quarter-mile times and was priced roughly at $3,000.
